Ecological Artwork Generator
The point was to create an art-making ecology, in which a system that borrows its principles from life (allowing this way - conceptually - for the conservation of life) and transfer it to art, so that the art system becomes an ecology in itself.
Alike living systems, this system also contains (two) sub-systems:
Terra Nostra Diagnosis is a system in itself, Rock Gifts is also a system in itself and then the other artworks derive from Terra Nostra Diagnosis.
I only managed to complete 4 out of 10 of these works so far. However, especially Rock Gifts, are still ongoing as half of the system is now complete and I am currently working on the presentation of the 2nd stage.
Portraits of drilling (Ongoing)

Fascinated by the interactions between the earth and humans I proposed a dystopian tale, a blackmirroresque story, in which people were suffering direct consequences of the drilling of the earth. The starting point are these illustrations that use the materials from TERRA NOSTRA DIAGNOSIS, being part of the system, but its completion is only achieved with writing.

A very direct criticism and controversial topic: I see the church of oil as a sect, which actually was indeed propelled by the missionaries when colonising indigenous cultures to appropriate their resources, including oil. This floor projection is a subversion of the Gospel of John, which describes the hierarchy within the deities of Roman Catholic church by detailing the function of John, Jesus and apostles in relation to God, and his creation. I appropriated geological jargon and substituted words in the gospel as to tell another story: one of blind obedience and mindless repetition. I see our dependency on fossil fuel much like a comfortable meaningless ritual, incited by the capitalist consumerist habits of the wasteful shopping culture of today.
Rock gifts (ongoing)

Drawing from TERRA NOSTRA DIAGNOSIS still, this public intervention was based around the surface of London and my body. Equating the body of the earth to mine, I divided London's map (local)&(geography) into parts of my body by using the golden section based on my head's proportions. I then placed a rock gift in those locations, each with the same message but referring to different parts of my body. The purpose was to adhere to the feedback loop in the Biomimicry set of rules and then work with the answers that the public provided me with. So far I got 8 e-mails, of which 2 are fairly comprehensive in their answers. The intention is to use these answers to make a new/another artwork, so that the system continues to take flight.
